War Dog Memorial

In 1998, the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine dedicated a memorial to honor the dogs that served with the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II by often sacrificing their lives to warn of upcoming attacks and save the lives of marines. In 2011, it was decided to further the relevance of this memorial by placing the signage for the UT Veterinary Medicine Center at the same location. The design solution gives the memorial a more visible presence and connects it to the adjacent city greenway, while creating a place of rest and reflection in the commemoration of the war dogs and their service.
